Also known as La Ila in Ladin and Stern in German, the village of La Villa has its origins deeply rooted in Ladin culture, which is still reflected today in the language, traditions and local way of life. For centuries, La Villa was a small village of farmers and livestock breeders, where life followed the rhythm of nature and the seasons.
In the centre of the village stands the impressive Ciastel Colz, a 16th-century castle that represents a valuable historical and cultural landmark of the area.
Alongside its history, La Villa preserves its living traditions. The parish church of Santa Maria Assunta is an important community landmark, and every year on the 15th of August, a solemn procession is held in its honour, followed by the famous parade of traditional Ladin costumes.
With the development of alpine tourism in the 20th century, La Villa has become a renowned holiday destination, while still preserving its authentic character and peaceful atmosphere. The village is also internationally known for the Gran Risa, one of the most technical and spectacular slopes on the Alpine Ski World Cup circuit, which has hosted the men’s giant slalom every year since 1985, making it one of the most prestigious events of the World Cup.
Today, La Villa combines tradition and modernity, offering high-quality hospitality and direct access to one of the most renowned ski areas in the Dolomites.
